How does AIDs effect women in Sub-Saharan Africa?

Why is HIV/AIDS more common among women? Why is this plague affecting more women? How is this fair? The prevalence of HIV/AIDS in pregnant women started at 26% in 2002 dropping to 18% in 2006. HIV/AIDS is more common among women because most do not have the ability in whether or not they have save sex. In sexual relationships the male is the dominant. Also many girls are uneducated of the risks involved with sex. Girls did not tell people if they had HIV/AIDS for fear of being ostracized. Women will participate in prostitution in order to make money for food. Africa is trying to provide the right protection for men and women, for every man they would hand out 10 condoms. Over the past few years Africa has seen an increase in condom use. For women they would give them a cream or gel in hopes that it would protect them against HIV/AIDS. But this isn't enough. In rural area it is harder to reach the people and many families are poor farmers who cannot afford to send there daughters to school for proper education.
